I’ve been meaning to take the time out to watch this video since it was uploaded last month. Just got round to it and it’s worth a watch just for the real-time video overlay in Bing Maps.
This is a preview of a work in progress project that has been in production, on and off, for the past few months. I have been asked to re-brand the Royal Tournament as part of a large-scale pitch to ring back the event that was pulled back in 1999. Below are some images of the latest stage of designs, both logo and poster designs, as well as some work in progress that goes back to the first stage of design.
I’ve been waiting for the full trailer for this for a while. Here it is:
A quote from Nolan:
“This is the biggest challenge I’ve taken on to this point,” said Nolan, who may return to Gotham City for his next feature. “We’re trying to tell a story on a massive scale, a true blockbuster scale – the biggest I’ve ever been involved with. We tried to make a very large-scale film with ‘The Dark Knight’ and with this one we wanted to push that even further.”
I guess I’ve been into Hauntology without ever knowing the meaning of the word. I’ve always had an interest in the lo-fi and nostalgic approach to both music and art without really being bale to pin down the reason for it. The ‘crackly’ vinyl sound of music from Burial to Ed Harcourt to Arial Pink has always had a certain way of creating imagery stronger and more interesting than a lot of other music I seem to listen to. The art of Peter Doig and the design work of Julian House has been something I always thought I liked because of the ‘earthy’ and ‘kitschy’ aspect respectively. The creation of non-existent memories from a time I’ve never known is prominent in this type of music and art, but for me it’s been more of a subconscious appreciation.
I’m as excited as the next web designer when it comes to all this @font-face business, but when it comes down to the legaility of it all, making my way through all the opinions on how it can or can’t work, how TypeKit isn’t really the right solution to fight the DRM problems et al, then I must admit that I’m beginning to get a little bit lost.
Back in December 2009 Google introduced their ‘Real-time’ search, which presented updates from live Tweets, Yahoo Answers and news pages, which seemed to open up a world of possibilities for brands to become exposed through social network updates and discussions between the general public. Now with the launch of Google’s Myspace and facebook ‘Real-time’ search the spread of up-to-the-minute, as-it-happens (or as discussed) searching will only increase the possibility of finding ‘from the source’ information.
I have just come across a nice little online shop selling book cover t-shirts, and if anybody would like to get this one for me for my birthday then here’s the link. Out of Print clothing.
Based in Austin, Texas, PTARMAK are a studio of designers, writers, artisans and thinkers who have worked for Penguin, MTV and Andy Warhol. One particular piece of work on their website has got me feeling pretty envious. The brand and visual identity that has been created for what looks like a local butcher’s is pretty much perfect in my eyes. Check out some images below, or better still visit the site now.
This is the blog space for London based web and branding designer Ricky Burgess. Expect to see some personal and professional work updates as well as general design, typography and web posts.
